108th North Carolina District Convention |

The North Carolina MB churches are expanding their horizons! Our 108th district convention was a celebration of this theme as all 6 of our churches reported either financial or numerical growth within the last year. The Boone MB church welcomed the convention with open arms from Sept. 19-21. Our gracious hosts had the church beautifully decorated for the occasion and even brought in the best southern style BBQ around for lunch on Saturday. During the Friday night business session each church reported on the past year events and budgets. We enjoyed a youth report with a highlights video and the night concluded with discussion on the new North Carolina District budget. Saturday morning began with the blues as Clyde Ferguson and his son Clyde Jr. led us in worship. If you closed your eyes you could feel the presence of the Lord and maybe a little bit of BB King as well. After worship, Don Morris of Mission USA led a seminar on rethinking church. Don’s passion for church planting was evident as he opened the door for our district to not only expand our existing churches but think seriously about planting new ones. After lunch Steve Prieb from MB Biblical Seminary challenged us to identify and call out leaders in the church who have Character, Competence, and a deep Connection to God. The convention wrapped up on Sunday morning with all the churches in a combined service. Our district Moderator Terry Hunt, challenged us to work together to bring about the changes that are needed for growth. “Never try to work out a problem depending entirely on your own resources” exclaimed Hunt. “We need to place all that we have into the hands of Jesus so that He can multiply what little we have.” The scripture text was taken from John 6:1-13 using the story of the five loaves and two fish to demonstrate the transforming power of Jesus. As is tradition at the NCMB convention our Sunday service closed with a blessing of the Pastors as they continue in their assignments in their churches. We also celebrated a new deacon couple at the Laytown MB church, Eric and Gail Hinton. The North Carolina MB churches are looking forward to the year ahead. We are progressing with our building project and look forward to moving into a new district building combined with a new church building for the Bushtown MB church. God is truly expanding our horizons.
